This year, CHARALS celebrates thirty years in business. In these three decades, Canada has seen CHARALS expanded from carrying simply fine writing instruments to exquisitely crafted leather goods, luxury housewares, and even luggage. Today, CHARALS is truly a purveyor of the best accessories to life one can have.

Over the years CHARALS has built an identity both in Vancouver and across Canada. With it’s humble beginnings as a small shop nestled in the atrium of the Sinclair Centre at 757 West Hastings Street, CHARALS grew its business over time through careful curation of product assortment and providing world-class customer service. One can always count on walking in and finding something truly unique and rare, and be assured that it was expertly crafted and of great quality.
With continued success the store expanded into the adjacent space in 1997, and the product assortment grew. And in 2015, twenty-nine years after it first opened it’s doors, and with a growing demand for quality and luxury goods in Vancouver, CHARALS opened its second location at 171 Robson Street in the heart of the Stadium District. “The Vancouver market is currently demanding stores like ours and the products that we carry, so we felt the timing was right to expand again” says Al Charania of CHARALS. 
The new location is an architectural marvel meticulously designed and fitted with custom fixtures and installments. It is also home to the only Montblanc in-store installment in Vancouver, and the only Graf von Faber-Castell Writing Boutique in Canada.

With the celebration of its 30th anniversary, CHARALS, aims to carry-on its success for another thirty years and truly create a lasting legacy not only in Vancouver or Canada, but the world. Happy Chinese New Year: Year Of The Monkey!

2016 marks, not only the year of the Monkey, but specifically the Fire Monkey. It is the most active and aggressive of the Monkeys.
Naturally dominant, he automatically gravitates towards leadership roles
and is competitive in whatever he is doing. He will need to be careful
not to let this overwhelm him and turn into toxic jealousy.

He also constantly strives to be in control of whatever situation he
is in. The main drive for whatever he
embarks on is to head straight for the top and stay there. Though ambitious, he is also nurturing with very good people skills

With his Fire energy, this agile, impulsive Monkey often leaps where
angels fear to tread. This reckless behavior sometimes turns out to not
be to the Fire Monkey’s advantage. However, he is very creative, dynamic
and has a particularly good talent at drawing people to him. He’ll leap from tree to tree –
whichever has the most fruit at the time – then find the quickest,
cleverest escape before others get to him.

In general though, the Fire Monkey is flamboyant and charmingly friendly, and has a large social circle.

The Fire Monkey’s aggression needs to be channeled correctly to
correct and positive directions, or he risks becoming very destructive and
harmful. If the Fire Monkey could develop more patience, it would be
good for him and those who work with him The Fire Monkey also needs to
think through his ideas before acting on them in order to safeguard his
own interests.

Before Montblanc became an internationally renowned house for timepieces and jewellery, they exclusively produced some of the finest writing instruments the world has ever seen. And the only place in Vancouver where you could have found these beautiful and exquisite pieces was at CHARALS.

As a celebration of that ongoing partnership, CHARALS introduced the largest Montblanc in-store installment in Vancouver. The entire piece was custom designed and built in Germany exclusively for the brand new CHARALS store at 171 Robson Street. The piece houses everything from writing instruments, to leather goods, and other accessories, and is a sumptuous combination of wood, glass, and stainless steel that blends harmoniously with the rest of the new store.

Just released by German luggage maker Rimowa is the brand new advertisement campaign for 2015, and boy is it magnificent.

The theme is vintage, classic, old-school. However you want to call it, it’s an homage to the past, and reminds us of the company’s history and heritage. Nostalgic themes and backdrops paired with the latest pieces from their collections presented to you by world renowned models Alessandra Ambrosio and Johannes Huebl make for an interesting blend of generations and technology. The 2015 Rimowa advertisement campaign is truly a thing to marvel.

At long last, 171 Robson Street – the brand new second CHARALS location – is officially open!
The spectacular new store is once again designed by John Mason who, over twenty-eight years ago, designed the original CHARALS store at the Sinclair Centre. 171 Robson Street is about the same size as the Sinclair Centre location, but features some marvelous new additions. 
Montblanc has always been a great partner of CHARALS and with the new store they have made a further commitment to excellence by putting in a magnificent in-store installment. The entire piece was custom built in Germany and shipped to Vancouver specifically for the brand new CHARALS store.
Graf von Faber-Castell has been a mainstay of CHARALS since it’s inception in 1993 and has also decided to strengthen their relationship with CHARALS by putting in a custom installment. Along with a brand new Faber-Castell cabinet, Faber-Castell is very well represented within the new store.

The First Graf von Faber-Castell Writing Boutique in BC at CHARALS, 171 Robson Street

On Wednesday February 18th, 2015, famed German maker of the finest quality writing instruments – Graf von Faber-Castell – officially unveiled their first Writing Boutique in Canada at CHARALS, 171 Robson Street. The event was a private and intimate affair that also saw appearances by Managing Director of Faber-Castell – Rolf Schifferens, Area Manager of Faber-Castell North America – Karin Seidl, and President of LSF Group Of Companies – Michael Pons. Distinguished guests and close friends of CHARALS were also in attendance. 

The feature attraction of the event was the introduction of the 2015 Pen Of The Year and the Precious Perfect Pencil. Four incredible pieces were featured: the Limited Edition
Pen of the Year 2015 fountain pen in Gold (limited to 150 pieces worldwide) at retail Cdn
$9,950, the Limited Edition Pen of the Year 2015 rollerball in Platinum (limited to 1,000

Happy Chinese New Year: Year Of The Goat

The Sheep (Goat) is a
Yin energy, a symbol of Peace, Harmonious co-existence and Tranquility. 
The Sheep is the symbol of the Arts. It
relates to passive and nurturing times. It will help the healing process
with regard to past events caused by individuals who have little
respect for the human race or life itself. It will be a year of banding
together in faith and in belief that good will prevail and win out over
the forces that refuse to comply to a peaceful way of life. For those
who trust in goodness, happiness and success will follow.
The aura of the 2015 Sheep (Goat) year
will gradually radiate its way to all. The most turbulent times will be
during the period of the Dragon, which is from the Vernal Equinox on
March 20th till April 20th, and especially the period of the Ox where a
grave threat will again raise its ugly head. This will be from the Day
of the Winter Solstice on the 22nd of December till the 20th of January
2016. But for the moment, allow the calming balms of the Sheep’s
vibrations to flow through you, and through you, to touch every heart
you meet.
2015 is a year to use mental abilities
over brute force. For those who wish to be aggressive, expect to be
out-maneuvered by strategy and common sense.
